Common Job Search mistakes!
Common Job Search mistakes!
I’ve been coaching budding professionals for over a decade to land their dream jobs and here are the top 10 job search mistakes I’ve seen candidates make:

1. 𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧: Job hunting can be a full-time job, and you need to treat it as such. It would be best if you had a plan and a strategy for your job search, including what kinds of jobs you're looking for, where you'll look for them, and how you'll apply.

2. 𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐝: Once you've landed an interview, it's important to be prepared. This means doing your research on the company and the position, and having thoughtful answers to common interview questions. Many wait till the last minute to start interview prep of any kind!

3. 𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠!: When you're just starting your job search, it can be tempting to apply to every job that you come across. However, it's important to be selective and only apply to jobs that you're truly qualified for and interested in.

4. 𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐞: Your resume should be tailored to each individual job that you apply for. This means highlighting the skills and experiences that are most relevant to the position.

5. 𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐧𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤: It's important to have a strong network of professional contacts, but you shouldn't rely on them exclusively when job hunting. You should also be proactive in your job search and reach out to potential employers directly.

6. 𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐚: Social media is a powerful tool that can help you in your job search. Use it to connect with potential employers, learn about job openings, and stay up-to-date on industry news.

7. 𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞: Many employers receive hundreds of applications for each open position, so it's important to apply as soon as possible. If you wait too long, your application may never be seen.

8. 𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐮𝐩: After you've submitted your application or had an interview, be sure to follow up with the employer. This shows that you're interested in the position and will help you stay top of mind.

9. 𝐆𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐮𝐩: Job hunting can be a long and difficult process, but it's important to persevere. Don't get discouraged if you don't hear back from employers or land every interview. Stay positive and keep at it.

10. 𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟: Job hunting can be stressful, so make sure to take care of yourself both physically and mentally. Eat healthy, exercise, get enough sleep, and take breaks when you need to.
